History of White Stuff

White Stuff was founded in 1985 by two friends, George Treves and Sean Thomas. Treves and Thomas wanted to start a business to enable them to pursue their love for skiing: thus the choice of the name "Boys from the White Stuff". They launched the store with specially printed T-shirts and sweatshirts, which were an instant hit in the alpine region of Val d'Isère, popular with skiers. The first dedicated White Stuff Clothing store was opened in London in 1991. White Stuff began mail order in 1993. From 2004, under the directorship of Sally Bailey, the brand has expanded from its original winter sports specialism to include a wide range of both menswear and womenswear in wearable, bohemian styles directed at a more urban audience. The company are famous for quality clothing and a modern play on traditional British style with unique and unusual trims and embellishments, all designed in-house. In 2014, Bailey was replaced as Brand Director by Jeremy Seigal. Now, White Stuff has 85 shops in the United Kingdom, and is also available as a concession in some branches of John Lewis and House of Fraser.

In 2010, to celebrate their 25th anniversary, the company started the White Stuff Foundation, dedicated to fulfilling a series of social and environmental commitments, particularly helping disadvantaged young people. 1% of the company's annual profits is donated to this foundation. Currently the White Stuff Foundation supports around 85 small charities in the UK, mainly in the areas close to White Stuff stores and distribution centres. Every branch of White Stuff is partnered with a particular local charity. The White Stuff Foundation also supports charities in India and Denmark.

Opening times can differ from store to store, with some shops opening at later times (such as retail parks or late night shopping centres). Generally however (particularly high street stores) are open at the following times:

Delivery Information

White Stuff offer a range of delivery options for online purchases. Standard delivery costs £3.95, and is free on orders of £50 or over. Standard delivery is available Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays. With delivery on a named day, you can choose a preferred delivery day from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) up to five days in advance, if you order by 10pm the day before. This service costs £6.95. Unfortunately, named day delivery is not available in Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands & Islands and other postcodes that are not mainland Britain. Express delivery before 1pm the next working day is available for orders received before 10pm on a working day (or 2pm on Sunday for a Monday delivery). This costs £7.95. If there is a delay of your express order, you'll receive notification by a text or email, and the delivery charge will be refunded. Again, express delivery is not available for Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands & Islands, and other postcodes that are not mainland Britain. You can also arrange to have your order delivered on Saturday, for a cost of £6.95. Orders for Saturday delivery must be placed by 10pm on Friday. Monday delivery for items purchased over the weekend costs £6.95, and orders must be placed by 2pm on Sunday. Sunday delivery is not available. If it's more convenient, you can order something online and have it delivered to your local shop. This is free, and £3.95 for next day delivery. Deliveries to Ireland and mainland Europe are £8, and it's £12 for the rest of the world.

Returns Policy

If you would like to return something, White Stuff deliveries include a free returns label (mainland UK only). You can return all or part of your order within 30 days of purchase and the value of the goods returned will be fully refunded. For purchases during November and December, the returns period is extended to take into account Christmas giving. It's a good idea to ask for a 'Proof of Postage' certificate when returning items in case your goods that get lost in transit.

Security & Reviews

The White Stuff online shop uses the latest encryption technology (SSL) to ensure that transactions are private and protected. They also use secure payment technology. This means some additional checks may be undertaken when you are ordering with a credit or debit card. White Stuff only have a small number of reviews on TrustPilot and these range from one star to five stars, with an average of three. The low number of reviews however means this rating shouldn't be taken as gospel. It's worth noting that often people only feel compelled to review a company when something has gone wrong (or service has been unusually good!), so the low number of ratings is a possible indicator of smooth, reliable service being provided.
